Nancy Ipock Wetherington

Nancy Ipock Wetherington, 87, of Cove City, NC passed away Friday, January 30, 2026, at Brook Stone Living Center. Prior to her recent sickness she resided the last two years at Navion of New Bern. Although she missed her home on Highway 55, she enjoyed the fellowship she found at the Navion. It doesn’t surprise us that her suite at the Navion was known to be the “gathering place”. 

Nancy was a native of Craven County and was the wife of John “Hayden” Wetherington, the daughter of George and Margaret Ipock, and the sister of Clara Ipock McCoy and Bobby Evander Ipock, all who preceded her in death. Nancy graduated from Jasper High School where she was Senior Class President, noted to be “most courteous” and was an avid basketball player. It was during this time, she met the love of her life, Hayden. They married at an early age and spent 66 years together raising their daughter, Kimberly Wetherington Gray and thriving in the farming community. When Nancy was not by Hayden’s side then she was tending to her family. She was a passionate caregiver to anyone in her family that needed her and an active member at Asbury Methodist Church. 

She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Wetherington Gray; sister-in-laws, Lois Wetherington and Glenda French: and nieces and nephews, Jo Barrow, Amy Wetherington, James H. Wetherington, Jr., Tina Boyette, Russell Ipock, Carol Lamb, Duffy McCoy and Penny Fillingame. 

A funeral service to honor her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 13th at Asbury Methodist Church. Inurnment will follow immediately in the church cemetery weather permitting.

In lieu of flowers the family suggested memorial contributions be made to Asbury Methodist Church, 1780 Asbury Rd., Cove City, NC 28523 or an organization of your choice.
