Valorie Jean Wetherington the Third
Valorie Jean Wetherington the Third passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025, surrounded by family and friends. She was born to Helen (mother) and Eddie (stepfather) Griffin on November 4, 1951. She was raised in a loving and active family with three brothers and one sister. She often spoke of fond memories of ice fishing, riding the snowmobile, mastering how to fix anything and everything while learning the great lessons of life. "Val" was one of the most loving people as a result of her wonderful childhood and loving family.
Val was a native of upstate New York and attended Alfred State Agriculture-Technical College. She spent 10 years with Kawneer Almax Aluminum Corp, prior to giving 20+ years with the City of Sherman. Her technical/management experience and damn determination made her invaluable in overseeing the logistical, maintenance, and janitorial aspects of the Municipal Building, Ballroom, Kidd-Key Auditorium, and City Hall. She also participated in and helped grow the Sherman Arts Festival into what it is today.
Val loved fishing, only her Miller Light, Parker, and all the previous dogs (Kia, Fisher ) she and Laura owned, the Dallas Cowboys, spending time with her friends and family, especially if they were playing poker or headed to the casino. Val especially loved helping others, particularly when they needed something fixed, electricity run, or a chicken coop built. She lived to fix a problem as long as it wasn't a computer glitch! Val was always up for a great laugh and truly enjoyed making everyone around her laugh, whether she was demonstrating how to clean a catfish or stopping at Braums to go to the bathroom. She gave of herself in such an unselfish manner and will be most assuredly missed by all who loved her.
Val is survived by her spouse, Laura Barajas, partners for 32 years and happily married for 10 years...always living each day as the greatest love story. Nieces Stephanie, Angela, and Jennifer. Beloved Goddaughter, Brooke Baker. Adopted Sister, by her Grandmother, Mary-Kay. Cousin Vickie. And the "Girls" that absolutely cherished her - Shannon, Tammy, Kelly, Amenia, Buffy, Patti, and Kelli, as well as her special buds, Eric, Dewayne, and Mark that were often referred to as "the Girls" also along with a host of other lifelong friends.
A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date. The family and friends would like to express their sincere appreciation to all of her nurses and caregivers at Heart-to-Heart Hospice, especially Donna and Tasha. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heart-to-Heart Hospice, 600 E. Taylor St., Ste. 3005,
Sherman, TX 75090.
