John "Jack" David McGuire, 93, passed away in Towanda Memorial Skilled Nursing Unit on July 30, 2025. Jack was born on May 24, 1932, to John McGuire and Gertrude (Beers) McGuire in Sayre, PA.

Jack attended Saint Agnes School and graduated from Towanda Area High School in 1950. After graduation, Jack enlisted in the Navy. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Simons, on June 30, 1951. After training, he served as a radioman on the USS Lake Champlain during the Korean War until he left the Navy in 1954. Jack used the GI bill and attained his bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering in 1958 from Penn State University.

Throughout his career, Jack worked for Sylvania in Towanda, followed by several locations in New York for IBM. In 1971, he became a business owner when he purchased a restaurant in Towanda, renaming it McGuire's Restaurant & Tap Room. Jack retired in 1990.

He was a member of the Independent Baptist Church in Towanda. He was also a member of the VFW, American Legion, and the 40&8, an honor society of American Veterans. He spent many years involved with the Legion and 40&8, working on various projects that support veterans and the local community. Additionally, Jack served on the Towanda School Board for one term.

Jack earned his pilot's license and spent hours with family and friends enjoying his aeronautics. His talents also included designing and drawing blueprints for two of the family's homes.

Surviving are his wife, Mary, and his children, Jeanette Bennett (Thomas) and Kevin McGuire (Ashley). Also surviving are his brother, Richard McGuire; Kathleen (Stewart) McGuire; Gabriel Jacobs; and 24 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his children, Michael McGuire, Linda Jacobs, and his brother James McGuire.

The family will receive guests on August 30, 2025, at 10:00 am, followed by the memorial service at 11:00 am at the Independent Baptist Church, 109 Cherry Street, Towanda, Pennsylvania. All are welcome to join the family in honoring his remarkable life.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Towanda Independent Baptist Church or the American Legion Post 42.
