John Anthony Mendez
January 9, 1971-July 3, 2024
It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of John Anthony Mendez, 53, who unexpectedly passed away on July 3, 2024, from a work-related accident.
"Boo," as he was fondly called by his close family and friends, was born on January 9, 1971, in San Leandro, California. He was a graduate of Livermore High School Class of 1989 and later became an Electrical Superintendent with Howell Electric. Throughout his 30-year electrical career, John was known for his incredible leadership, infectious attitude, exceptional skills, hard work, and dedication. John was well respected and loved by his colleagues.
John was a rancher who loved the outdoors, music, cooking and the Golden State Warriors. He loved horses, riding dirt bikes, fishing, boating and camping trips at the lake with family and friends. He found joy in deejaying, listening to very loud music and dancing. John expressed his love in many ways but one of his favorite ways was through cooking-especially Mexican food!
In his free time, John loved fixing up his gold, 1965, Chevy Impala. He created the car club, "Loyalty", and he often said, "Blood makes you related, but Loyalty makes you family". John defined loyalty as honesty, integrity, sacrifice, and faithfulness to his loved ones. He truly lived his life by these virtues.
Above all else, John was a man of faith, who always put God first. He was the patriarch of his family, who was caring and protective. John had a fun, loving spirit, a big heart of gold, and had the rare ability to make everyone who knew him feel important. He had a great sense of humor and contagious laugh. He truly was the life of the party. He can be described as a "jack of all trades" and "everyone's best friend."
Boo is survived by his beloved fiancée Patty and children Nichole, Monique, Juscill, Jalina, John and Mayleen. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother Christine and father William.
John Mendez' departure came as a great shock gravely felt by his entire family and countless others who loved him deeply. John will forever be in our hearts. Rest in peace, Boo.
Please join our family in celebrating the life of John "Boo" Mendez.
Vigil/Rosary will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2024, from 2:30 pm – 5:00 pm, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 458 Maple St. Livermore, CA.
Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024, at 11:00 am, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 458 Maple St. Livermore, CA; immediately followed by internment at St. Michael's Cemetery, 3885 East Ave, Livermore, CA.
For the Vigil/Rosary, you are welcome to join the family in wearing Western, Mexican, or Aloha wear. John was a rancher who embraced his Mexican culture. He also developed a love for the Hawaiian culture after a recent vacation to Hawaii with his fiancée. Together, they were planning a 2025 wedding.
For John's funeral, you may join the family in wearing white.

What a well written obituary. It captures the true essence of Boo´s character. He would want his family to be unified during this difficult time. Prayers to his whole family, but especially his widow Patricia. May you find peace and healing.

Condolences to the whole Mendez family. While he may not always have found the words, he loved each of you very much and worked very hard to take care of his family. You will be greatly missed John by those who knew you but most of all by your kids, your sister, your nephews and nieces . Rest in Peace John and we know you will always watch over Nichole, Mo and John John. Rest easy.
