John L. Mier, a proud 20 year US Navy Veteran who served in Vietnam, passed away on January 16, 2025 at the VA Hospital Hospice Care Facility in Tampa, Florida, after a lengthy illness.
John was married to Donna Poisel of Hebron Indiana. The couple resided together in Knox, Indiana for several years before relocating to Florida to care for John's mother Marie Lovett, and his stepfather Larry Lovett, both of whom preceded him in death.
John is survived by his sister, Terry (Richard) Sweargen of Mississippi; his brother, Steve (Brenda) Lovett of Orlando, Florida; and his three children, Nathan Mier of Knox, Indiana, Jessica Chappelle of Hudson, Florida, and Stacey Mier of East Haddam, Connecticut.
Donna is the mother of three children, Brad Recker (deceased), Brenda (Greg) Johnson of DeMotte, Indiana, as well as Darlene Recker and Susan Zlajic of Chicago, Ilinois. Together John and Donna cherished their family which includes ten grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
John and Donna were devoted members of VFW Post 748 in Knox, Indiana, and VFW Post 4412 in Hudson, Florida, where they found camaraderie and purpose.
John will be remembered for his service to his country, his love for family, and his dedication to helping others. He will be deeply missed.
