John A. Mihm

John Mihm, age 68 of Woodbine passed on June 13 at Gilchrist Hospice, Columbia MD after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Baltimore and lived in Howard County for his entire life. He graduated from Mt. Hebron High School in 1974.
John was a heavy equipment mechanic his whole life. He worked for many excavating contractors as a subcontractor during his life. This is the work that he loved to do. He was admired by many other mechanics for his knowledge of heavy equipment. Many nights he would get calls for advice on how to repair a piece of equipment. He enjoyed that interaction with others; John was a volunteer member of the Howard County Antique Farm Machinery Club. He was instrumental in the development and success of The Howard County Living Farm Heritage Museum. He enjoyed many hours working there with great friends.
John is survived by his wife and best friend Robin. They have 2 daughters; Mary Rasche (Allen) and Laura Bowman (Brad). Together they have 5 grandchildren. He is survived by his brothers and sister and many nieces and nephews.
He touched so many people's lives. Became a friend to all he met. His mantra was "give respect and you get respect" It has come to the family's attention just how much of a mentor he was to many young men he met. So many have come forward to say how his advice has shaped their lives. John was very open with his advice, even though sometimes it was unsolicited. He would have made a great teacher.
Family and friends will celebrate John's incredible life on July 10 from 1 PM to 4 PM at Bolder 144, located at 17004 Frederick Road, Mt. Airy. Please come and share your stories with the family.

Craig was a young sailor killed during the attack on the USS Cole in 2000. John has been involved in the fundraiser for this scholarship since it started. It meant a great deal to him. Craig's father Tom is a good friend of Johns.
