John Thomas "Tom" Miller Sr.

John Thomas "Tom" Miller, Sr., age 81, passed away Sunday June 2, 2024, at his residence. Tom was born Sept. 25th, 1942 to Emmet and Ruth Miller (deceased). In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Janssen. Tom divided his time between the family farm, his business on the Outer Loop, and his residence in Marco Island, Florida. Tom enjoyed many activities, mostly related to motor vehicles. He was an excellent mechanic and loved antique cars.
Like his father, Tom was a school bus contractor (bus 517), for Jefferson County schools for over 25 years. Tom, along with his brother Emmett (bus 414), started Miller Transportation, Inc. and has served as its president for over 50 years. The company has expanded from the Outer Loop in Louisville to Indianapolis, Indiana, and Columbus, Ohio. Tom is survived by his wife, Carolyn, and his two children: his daughter, Melissa Stegall (Paul) and his son, John Miller, Jr. (Tammy). He is also survived by two siblings, Emmett Miller (Mary) and Suzanne Nolte (John). Tom's grandchildren are Nash, Sutton and Canon Miller of Marco Island, Florida; Paige and Ashley Stegall of Louisville, Kentucky; and Trevyn Stegall of Nashville, Tenn.
Visitation will be held from 2 – 7 p.m. Thursday, at Joseph E. Ratterman & Son Funeral Home, 7336 Southside Dr, Louisville, KY 40214.
Tom's funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 6105 S 3rd St, with burial to follow in St. Andrews Cemetery.
