John F. Minjoe, 72, of Romeo, Michigan passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 10, 2025 with his son Jonathan Minjoe, his daughter Jillian Minjoe, and his wife of 48+ years Betty Minjoe at his side. Born on November 10, 1952, in Burbank, California, he was the son of the late Bo and Carm Minjoe.

He is also survived by his best buddy, and aptly named dog: Coach.

John played college hockey at Western Michigan University, and dedicated over 50 years of his life to working with young hockey players, and coaching teams around the Metro Detroit area. It was through the game of hockey that he unleashed his extraordinary ability to help others see their potential, and help them maximize strengths they never knew they had. Both on and off the ice, John's lessons continue to live on in the lives of his former players, coaches, and their families.

Even in passing, John continues a life of selflessness by donating organs to those in need via the "Gift of Life" program.

At heart, John's true legacy - in addition to being an encouraging father and devoted husband - lies in the joy, laughter, and empathy he brought out of everyone around him, strangers and friends alike. A celebration of life ceremony will be announced within the next couple of months, but until that time, his surviving family encourages you to love your friends and family a little extra, and laugh a little louder in the coming days and weeks. It's what John would want most, and how everyone can best honor the loss of such an incredible man.

There are so many memories that come to mind with the Minjoes. Beginning with being neighbors for about five years and then later in life getting to be neighbors again as they were building their dream home. So much laughter and Love throughout the years. I remember John wasn´t used to southern food like I cooked and I conned him into eating fried squash and he thought it was homemade Fritos, I don´t think I ever told him any different. .Or the time we went to Smithville for the fiddlers jamboree and he was amazed just sitting and people watching.John you have left a mark on many lives and I know Betty, Jillian and Jon will have so many wonderful memories to carry them thru the coming days. In their grief they know it´s not goodbye but see you later. Love Elaine and Ritch
