John C. Misiora, Sr., a man celebrated for his intelligence, handiness, and spirited nature, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2025, in Kentland, Indiana, at the age of 84. Born on July 28, 1940, in East Chicago, Indiana, to the late Leo and Mary Misiora, John's life was one of dedication, achievement, and joy. He was a loving husband to his late wife, Judith Lynn (Fleming) Misiora, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage, and a devoted father to his children.
John's early years in East Chicago were marked by his outstanding athletic abilities. A graduate of East Chicago Roosevelt High School, he excelled as an All-State football player, playing the center position, and also demonstrated prowess on the wrestling mat. His athletic accomplishments earned him a well-deserved induction into the East Chicago Sports Hall of Fame, a testament to his dedication and talent.
After high school, John embarked on a successful career at Inland Steel, where he worked for 34 years before retiring. His roles as a section manager and machinist showcased his intelligence and handiness, skills that he carried into all aspects of his life. John's work ethic and commitment to his profession were admired by all who knew him.
John's life was also filled with a passion for the outdoors. He found great pleasure in camping, hunting, and fishing, and his love for gardening was evident in the beautiful spaces he created. These interests allowed him to cultivate a deep connection with nature and provided countless cherished memories with family.
Family was the cornerstone of John's life. He is survived by his five children: John (Karen) Misiora, Jr. of Lake Village, IN, Leon (Kathy) Misiora of Kamas, UT, Julie (Dick) Stahl of Hebron, IN, Janie (Brian) Michael of Wanatah, IN, and Joanie (Troy) Piatt of Greenwood, IN. John's legacy continues through his eleven grandchildren: Bradley (Rae) Misiora, Tim (Jessica) Misiora, Sean Misiora, Javid Stahl, Jessica Stahl, Brittany (Fernando) Ramirez, Brendan (Katelyn) Michael, Courtney (Greg) Pahl, Kassy Piatt, Taurie (Andrew) Larrigan, and Jonathan (Piper) Misiora. His love and teachings will live on in the lives of his 18 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his immediate family, John is survived by his daughter-in-law, Luann Misiora, and his sister, Katherine Zwoll. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judith, his son David Misiora, his parents Leo and Mary Misiora, his brother Leon Misiora, and his sisters Mary Ann Monday and Lorraine Stasek.
John's life was a testament to the power of love, family, and hard work. Those who knew him will remember his intelligence, his ability to fix anything, and his lively spirit that brought joy to every gathering. His presence was a gift to all, and his memory will be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
John C. Misiora, Sr. will be deeply missed, but his impact on his family will be felt for generations to come. His family takes comfort in knowing that he is reunited with his beloved wife and other family members who have passed before him. John's life was one well-lived, full of accomplishments, love, and the joy of shared experiences. As we say goodbye to this remarkable man, we celebrate the enduring legacy he leaves behind.

It was my pleasure to have know John when he played football at East Chicago Roosevelt High School 1955 State football championship team. He was truly one of Pete Rucinski and Earnie Miller´s boys.

His success can attributed to Pete and Ernie. They were all about teaching and preparing kids for life after high school. I am certain the world have been very proud of John´s success. May the good Lord keep John, his wife and family in the Palm of His Hand!
