Marjorie N. "Marge" Laffoon, 96, of Rensselaer, IN, formerly of Fair Oaks, IN, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at the Rensselaer Care Center. She was born in Rensselaer on Dec. 19, 1928, the daughter of Walter and Edna (Elijah) Sullivan. She attended school in Fair Oaks.
On Dec. 21, 1946 she married James Robert Laffoon. Together they raised six children. Marge was a homemaker. She also worked in the kitchen at Jasper County Hospital. She was a member of the United Church of Morocco and was on the Advisory Board for Colfax Township. She enjoyed gardening and working in her yard, reading and crocheting. She especially loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by five children: Gloria (Neal) Barton of Rensselaer, IN, Terry (Jean) Laffoon of Morocco, IN, Roberta Goddard of Morocco, IN, Tina (Kim) Brownfield of Otterbein, IN, and Damon (Leisa) Laffoon of Morocco, IN; son-in-law Jeff Steinke of Monon, IN; one brother, Vernon Robert Sullivan of Crown Point, IN; one sister, Judy Kiger of Rensselaer, IN; 19 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Laffoon; daughter Lena Steinke; her parents, Walter and Edna Sullivan; one brother, Walter Leroy Sullivan; one sister, Pauline Mauck; two brothers-in-law, Ray Mauck and Lee Kiger; two sisters-in-law, Judy Sullivan and Jayne Sullivan; one son-in-law, Garry Goddard; and one grandson, Wyatt Hoaks.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 24, 2025 from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral at noon (CDT) at the United Church of Morocco. Pastor Patrick Gutwein officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens of Rensselaer. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the United Church of Morocco.
