John Mixis Obituary John Spiro Mixis, 69, of Pleasant Lake, Indiana, formerly of Union Mills, passed away Tuesday. August 27, 2024. He was born August 26, 1955 in Gary, Indiana to Spiro and Katherine (Patellis) Mixis. John is survived by his children Christopher (Juli) Mixis of Charlotte, North Carolina and Andrea McGinnis of Ypsilanti, Michigan; his grandchildren Isabel Mixis-Laird and Parker McGinnis; his grandchildren from a previous marriage Dustin Becker, Drew Becker, Samantha Jo Simmons, and Savannah Becker; his brothers Arthur (Debra) Mixis of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Steven Mixis of Union Mills; and his sister Evangeline Schmeltz of Haines City, Florida. John was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers George and Andrew. For many years, John worked as a maintenance supervisor for M.P.I. in Knox. His work in the manufacturing industry allowed him to follow his passion for understanding how things work and to fix things for others. John was a 1973 South Central High School graduate and had an immense love for fishing, especially fly fishing. Visitation for John will be on Friday, August 30th from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 PM at Newhard Funeral Home in Westville. Following visitation graveside services will take place at Union Mills Cemetery where he will be laid to rest. A funeral luncheon will be offered immediately after the burial at the Union Mills Conservation Club. Johns family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center for Prostate Cancer Program https://giving.umich.edu/basket/fund/310652
