John T. Mooney Jr.

John T. Mooney Jr., 68, a life-long resident of Wallingford, CT, passed away on December 8, 2025, with his daughters by his side after a year-long battle with lung cancer.
Born in New Haven on December 11, 1956, he was the son of the late John Mooney Sr. and Joan McAviney Mooney. He graduated from Sheehan High School in 1975. John spent his career as a dedicated warehouseman in the metals industry and especially enjoyed his part-time work at East Center Market until his retirement.
John was an avid sports fan-cheering fiercely for the Giants, Mets, and UConn Huskies. He loved golfing with friends and treasured every moment spent with his daughters. He also enjoyed catching up with his high school friends over pizza or at Hunter's Golf Course with his best friend Bob Buchanan.
John is survived by his daughters, Whitney and Sydney Mooney of Wallingford; his brothers, Thomas Mooney of Riviera Beach, FL, and Robert Mooney and his wife, Karen, of Palmetto, FL; and his sisters, Maura Mooney of Wallingford, CT, Eileen Mooney and her partner, Lucius Lester, of Raleigh, NC; Mary Mooney Schroeder of Chipley, FL. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews Courtney Mooney, Jonathan Mooney, Carolyn Davidson, Michael Ciriello, Allijah Ciriello, Nathan Ciriello, Sean Killeen, John Killeen, and Robbie Killeen. John leaves behind his beloved pug, Hurley, named after Dan Hurley of the UConn Huskies.
In addition to his parents, he is also predeceased by his brother Timothy Mooney and his niece Macaire Chasse.
