John Moran Obituary
John W. Moran, Jr., 73, of Belleville, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2025. Born in Jersey City, NJ, John was the son of the late John W. and Helene (Dooley) Moran. He worked on the railroad for 44 years, retiring as a Yard Master for New Jersey Transit in 2017. Post-retirement, John took pleasure in swimming laps and taking yoga classes at the Montclair YMCA. John thoroughly enjoyed music, Broadway musicals, and attending concerts, especially with his sons. He loved summers vacationing on Long Beach Island with his family, including his beloved mini schnauzers. John is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marybeth, his two sons Charles and Robert (Kimberly), and two grandsons Henry and Jack. Also surviving are John's sisters-in-law, Judy Tennissen, Patty Rowan, Donna Hall, Ellen Casteline, and Maureen Conley (Rob), as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Kenneth Moran.
He was the best Dad to his sons and "Papa" to his grandsons – he truly cherished all his boys.
Visitors will be received at the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, (www.swbrownandson.com), 267 Centre St., Nutley, Thursday, December 18, 2025, from 4:00PM – 7:00PM. The service will conclude with the viewing.
In memory of John Moran, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Breakthrough Type 1 Diabetes (Formerly JDRF) in lieu of flowers.
