John F. Mormile

John Mormile passed away Sunday, March 1, 2026, at his home in Potter Hollow, New York. John was born on November 24, 1944, in Troy, New York to parents Antionette (Martino) and Frank Mormile.

John is survived by his wife, Linda, sister, Sharon Urban, sons Thomas (Tamara) and Matthew Mormile (Melissa) daughter Anne (Mark Deka), and grandchildren Aliyah, Francesca, Luke, and Emmelia Mormile.

John was a 1962 graduate of Mechanicville Central School where he served as class president and carried on his position through the present organizing numerous class reunions. He graduated with a BA degree from SUNY Albany in 1966 and began his career teaching English at Castleton High School. John continued his education earning his Master's from SUNYA and served as Middle School Principal at Port Byron, New York, retired as Superintendent from Cattaraugus Central School in 1999.

John's love of theater and music manifested itself through a sabbatical with the Empire State Youth Theater where he traveled abroad with the group performing the Wizard of OZ. He later organized high and middle school plays during his time as an English teacher and school administrator. One of his fondest memories was the time he joined the Cattaraugus Methodist Church Choir and participated in both the Methodist and Catholic services.

After retirement, John and Linda moved to Potter Hollow, New York, where John served on many local committees for the Town of Rensselaerville.

Calling hours will be Friday, March 6th from 4 to 7 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. A funeral service will conclude the evening. Spring burial will be in Potter Hollow Rural Cemetery. Condolences may be posted at ajcunninghamfh.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Potter Hollow Union Church Food Pantry, P.O.
