John C. Morris

John Charles Morris, born on January 28, 1970, in Queens, New York, was the cherished son of Marlene Morris Roby and Leroy T. Morris. On Sunday, December 8, 2024, he peacefully transitioned from this life.
As the self-proclaimed "King of the Met," John was a proud graduate of Irmo High School, finishing his studies in 1988, where he made his mark as an athlete on the football and basketball teams. His adventurous spirit led him to serve four honorable years in the Navy, stationed in beautiful Hawaii. John proudly served aboard the USS Coronado during Desert Storm. These experiences shaped his character and instilled in him a love for life that he carried with him always.
Known fondly as "Unc John," he was not just a gentle giant with a warm, genuine smile but also a cherished figure in his community. His time as a student bus driver left an indelible mark on many young lives. Had a special gift for connecting with children, often allowing occasional stray dogs to join their ride to school, earning their love and admiration along the way.
Returning from the military, John thrived in the restaurant industry, serving as a general manager in several establishments. His final job was as a security guard at WIS in the most recent years, where he continued to connect with those around him. His dedication to his work was matched only by his passion for sports. An unwavering die-hard Steelers fan, John also enjoyed cheering on the Carolina Panthers and the Boston Celtics. He delighted in sharing his love for the game with friends and family.
John's greatest joy came from his role as father. He married Shauna, on August 16, 1997, and together they welcomed their cherished daughter, Lauren Haley, into the world on August 15, 2004. John's laughter and humor brought light to every room, and his cherished memories will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him.
His generosity extended beyond his family; he volunteered his time reading and sharing snacks with children in his sister's kindergarten class, a testament to his nurturing spirit and love for the younger generation.
Although John is no longer physically with us, his loving and kind spirit will forever live on in the hearts and lives of all who loved and knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and love that will be remembered and honored for years to come.
Those who will forever cherish fond and precious memories of John are his mother, Marlene Morris Roby; daughter, Lauren Haley Morris, Shauna Gill, mother of his daughter Lauren; sister, Shondra Morris; brothers, Keith Roby Jr. and Kyreem Oakes (Briana); niece, Jordan Morris; nephews, Dominic Roby and Samuel Roby; Aunt, Gail Oakes, Uncle, Arthur (Twanda) Johns Jr. and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
