John P. Morrissey, 91, of Lynnfield, MA, formerly of Dennis, MA, died on Sunday, April 30 at Wingate at Reading Nursing Center of natural causes. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, on August 25, 1925, he was the son of the late Daniel and Rosalind (Beagan) Morrissey. Mr. Morrissey was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School in Providence, Rhode Island. He attended Providence College and was a graduate of Boston University. He earned a Master's degree in Business from Northeastern University. He served in the United States army during WWII. John Morrissey held to a work ethic that will remain his legacy, and he made certain to instill this in his four children. He was totally dedicated to his family. He had a successful career in pharmaceutical and chemical sales prior to purchasing his own chemical company. In addition to running his business, he served as adjunct faculty at La Salle University, Community College of Philadelphia, and Burlington County College. He enjoyed public speaking, and delighted in adding theatrical flair to his volunteer work as a lector at St. Adelaides, West Peabody, MA; and Our Lady of the Cape, Brewster, MA. He was an avid reader. He was never happier than when swimming in any body of water, particularly the Atlantic Ocean on family vacations in Cape Cod, MA. He had great appreciation for the theatre, and enjoyed listening to Broadway show tunes. He loved ballroom dancing; it was a pleasure to watch him and his wife, Eileen, performing their favorite waltz on the dance floor at weddings. Mr. Morrissey is widowed from his wife, Eileen (Russell) Morrissey. He is survived by his 4 children and their spouses: Shaun Morrissey and Jill Drury, of Nashua, NH; Eileen E. Morrissey, of Millstone, NJ; Deidre Lamusta, of Lynnfield, MA, and Terrence Morrissey and his wife Susan, of Moorestown, NJ; his two brothers, Daniel Morrissey of S. Kingstown, RI; and Joseph Morrissey, of Charlestown, RI; and predeceased by his sister, the late Rosalind Flynn. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, and one great grandchild. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, June 17 at 10:00 AM at St. Adelaide's Roman Catholic Church, Peabody, MA.
