Galloway & Sons Funeral Home - BeevilleJohn Charles Mortensen, better known as Chuck, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026, at his home in Skidmore, Texas, at the age of 79. Chuck led a life rich in love, family, and faith.
Chuck was born on June 28, 1946, in Miles City, Montana, to Donald Christoffer Mortensen and Geraldine Carolan Mortensen.
Chuck spent his career working in the electrical field, but he could always be found around horses, horse racing, and rodeo events.
He was a dedicated member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Skidmore.
On August 15, 1970, Chuck married the love of his life, Wanda Herrmann, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Beeville. Together, they shared 55 wonderful years filled with cherished memories, love, and companionship.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Christoffer Mortensen, mother, Geraldine Carolan Tracy, stepmother, Alice Mortensen, and sisters, Sharon Seekins and June Bauslough.
He is survived by his wife Wanda Mortensen, his five children, Stewart (Annie) Mortensen, Reagan (Amy) Mortensen, Garrett Mortensen, Ashley (Roy) Hall, and Andrew (Samantha) Mortensen. His legacy continues through his six grandchildren, Zachary Mortensen, Mathieu Mortensen, Shabree Mortensen, Ashlyn (Austin) Hall Roe, Alyson Hall, and Lyric Mortensen. He is also remembered fondly by his two brothers, Don G. Mortensen and Earl Mortensen.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2026, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home with a Rosary to be prayed at 7 o’clock.
Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Skidmore with Father John Ouelette officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be Zachary Mortensen, Mathieu Mortensen, Ralph Stubenthal, Robert Sugarek, and Kyle Stubenthal.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Immaculate Conception Church in Skidmore.
