Former Richmond resident John K Mosgrove, age 93, died Saturday Feb. 25, 2023 at his home in Amboy, Illinois. He was born March 24, 1929 in Vicksburg, Michigan to Forrest and Laura (Hanshue) Mosgrove. John was a Dental Technician for the Veterans Administration for 6 years where he aided in the development of the radiation guidance program that helped patients limit radiation damage to surrounding tissues. After leaving the V.A. he continued working as a Dental Technician for most of his life and even ran his own business, John's Dental Lab, until he was 90.
John was a proud Veteran of the Army Signal Corps and served his country in the Korean War. He loved spending time outdoors, whether it be fishing, hunting, target shooting or just watching deer in the backyard. He was passionate about music and a talented pianist. He spent many a night sitting at his piano entertaining others, or just practicing his songs.
John married Shirley Kuntz June 27, 1953 in Richmond, IN. They lived most of their lives in the Richmond area and were active members of the church and community throughout their time there. They moved to Amboy Illinois in the fall of 2021, to be closer to family. He was a proud and beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His charm, wit and sense of humor will be missed by all that met him, while his beloved smile and infectious jokes will be most missed by his friends and family, who could count on him to lighten any moment at any given time.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Shirley, one daughter Kay (Brad) Currens, four grandchildren Derick Mosgrove, Stacy (Adam) Lusz, Sarah Calkins, Joshua (Makenzi) Calkins and 8 great grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Kathy Mosgrove, two brothers Robert and Marvin Mosgrove, and two sisters Betty Ryder and Marian Walls.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday March 2, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon Illinois. Burial with military honors will follow at Emmert Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Serenity Hospice and Home 1658 IL Rt. 2, Oregon, IL 61061.
