John Edward Mrochek, 92, resident of Farragut TN, passed away December 31, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was the oldest of two sons born in Wisconsin Rapids to John A and Phyllis M Mrochek. John was the first in his family to graduate from college in 1955. Following his graduation he entered the US Navy where he served for nearly 2 years as a sonar man. Toward the end of his military service, he met and married his wife of over 50 years, Shirley Ann Steiert. They returned to the mid-west where he continued his education in Chemistry at Iowa State University, earning a PhD. The Mrocheks subsequently moved to Oak Ridge TN where John pursued a career in the Chemical Technology Division of Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
John enjoyed working with electronics. He repaired and built radios, TVs, and eventually computers. He was a long time member and officer of the Oak Ridge Sportsman's Association, enjoying many weekend marksmanship competitions there. He was an enthusiastic outdoorsman taking his sons on many hunting and fishing excursions. Boating with his entire family was a particularly favorite pastime.
