John Barlow Muir passed away March 29, 2022 while camping in the Joshua Tree National Natural Landmark near St. George, Utah. He was born on Valentine's Day 1954 to Milton B. and K. Gale Muir. John was a sweet, happy child growing up on Millcreek Canyon Road with a backyard that went down to the river. He attended Wasatch Junior High, where he set a district record in the pole vault and went on to Skyline High School. He followed his father into the home building trade and excelled in finish work. He always loved nature, taking pictures of its' beauty, and making many trips to Yellowstone and throughout the western states.
On August 26, 1986, he married Lea Lamonte Hyde in an outdoor ceremony in the Town of Alta. They loved their dogs and were champion players at billiards and darts. Lea died in 1989 after a hard battle with cancer. John was her loving caregiver to the very end. John continued to love the outdoors and traveled as the weather would direct. While panning for gold, he also collected rocks from his travels. He is now with his sweetheart again.
John was preceded in death by his wife and parents. He is survived by siblings: Joseph, Katheryne & Kalani MacGill in Arizona, James & Esperanza, and David & Cheri. He also had 12 nieces and nephews. "Happy Trails, dear brother, until we all meet again."
Contact John's brother David with any questions or personal reflections at [email protected]. A gathering of remembrance may be organized later in May at Wasatch Lawn Cemetery.
