LaVale, MD- John L. Mullan, age 94, of LaVale, Maryland, was reunited with the love of his life on Thursday, January 25, 2024.
Born on September 29, 1929, in the back of his father's grocery store in Westernport, MD. John was the son of the late Vista L. Mullan and Anna Marie (Fier) Mullan. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Marie E. (Hobel) Mullan; two sisters, Charlotte (Margaret) Morgan, June Bryan Reeves; and a brother, James (Duke) Mullan.
John was a Korean War Veteran having served in the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany, and on the mainland in Yamoussoukro, Japan. After graduating from West Virginia University with an accounting degree, he went to
work for Kelly Springfield Tire Company. He held various positions at Kelly and retired after 32 years of service as the Director of Management Engineering for Kelly's Worldwide Operations. John was active in local organizations including youth sports, Boy Scouts, and the LaVale Lions Club of which he was a charter member, receiving his 50 year pin just last year. John and Marie enjoyed summers at their camp on Patterson's Creek and traveling with family and friends. He never met a stranger and went out of his way to greet everyone.
John is survived by his sons, Dr. John R. Mullan and wife, Debi; James Mullan and wife, Toni; Joseph Mullan and wife, Tina, all of Cumberland, Maryland; and Jeff Mullan and wife, Pam, of Winchester, Va. John is also survived by his grandchildren, Travis Mullan, of Richmond, Va.; Tyler (Mullan) England and husband, James, of El Paso, TX; Tessa (Mullan) Hoffmann and husband, Carlo; Tucker Mullan and wife, Abbie; Tanner Mullan; Jacob Mullan and wife, Hallie; Jensen (Mullan) Kunis and husband, Timmy, all of Cumberland, Maryland; and Andrew Mullan and wife, Carlin; Kaitlyn Mullan; and Chloe Mullan, all of Virgina Beach, Va. John was also blessed with four great-grandchildren, Greyson and Gavin Kunis, Adaline Marie Mullan and Tille Jean Mullan. His grandchildren were the light of his life.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 15205 McMullen Hwy SW, Cresaptown, Maryland, on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 from 11:00am to 1:00pm. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm with the Rev. George Harpold officiating.
There will be a private interment at Sunset Memorial Park with full military honors accorded by Ft. Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Travis Mullan, Jacob Mullan, Tucker Mullan, Andrew Mullan, Tanner Mullan, Timmy Kunis, Carlo Hoffman, and James England.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Roy Chisholm and Dr. Kim and also the staff of UPMC Intensive Care Unit.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in his name to the LaVale Lions Club, 421 National Hwy., LaVale, MD 21502.
