JOHN MURPHY Obituary

MURPHY, John Patrick Jr. Of Newport Beach, CA and Harwichport, MA, passed away, suddenly, on May 27, 2025, at his home. Born to the late Dr. John P. and Elizabeth (Lahiff) Murphy, John graduated from St. Sebastian's School and University of Southern California in 1970. He returned to Boston to obtain his MBA at Suffolk University and thereafter, moved to Newport Beach. John became a stockbroker at EF Hutton, where he traversed multiple corporate mergers over 53 years and yet remained in the same office complex in Newport Beach, where he was employed at the time of his death at Wells Fargo Advisors, as Senior Vice President of Investments or as he preferred, a stockbroker. John was rich in his relationships with family, friends, clients and coworkers. He was an avid sports fan of all Boston sports teams and was a season ticket holder for years at USC football games. He was an avid reader of aviation, sports history and espionage thrillers and retained a large library of each genre. He is survived by his three sisters, Ann E. Murphy of Chestnut Hill, Frances M. and her husband, Gene Ratto of Needham, Mary L. McDonald of Lexington; and his brother, Paul F. Murphy and his husband, Carlos Vaquerano of Jamaica Plain; along with his cherished nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces and a wide circle of godchildren and lifelong friends on both coasts. John will return to his beloved Harwichport, as he did each August, for a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Trinity Church, 246 Main Street, West Harwich, MA, on August 7, 2025, at 10:00 am, and Inurnment, at the Holy Trinity Columbarium, will immediately follow on the church grounds. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
