John (Jack) Murphy died of natural causes at his home in Spring Lake Heights, NJ, surrounded by his loving family. He was 94.
Jack grew up in Woodside, Queens, NY, the son of Margaret and Owen Murphy. After attending St. Ann s Academy (now Archbishop Molloy) on a full academic scholarship, Jack graduated from Fordham University and then served in the Korean War. Jack loved the beach and the Spring Lake boardwalk, and retired to the Jersey Shore in the 1990s. He had a strong faith and was a communicant of St. Catharine s Parish in Spring Lake. Jack was a legendary entertainer, and loved having his family over to his home, where he and Peggy hosted countless holidays, parties, and barbecues on the patio. Jack was known for his warmth and hospitality, in which no one ever had an empty glass. He was surrounded by wonderful, caring, friends and neighbors who provided constant companionship during his golden years. He was a life member of the Society of the Friendly Sons of St Patrick in the City of New York, and a proud member for many years of the New York Athletic Club.
