John R. Murphy III, age 72, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2024. He was born on January 15, 1952 to John R. and Frances (Delfino) Murphy, Jr.
Johnny was a strong fighter from the beginning as he was not expected to live due to esophageal stenosis. He also lived with epilepsy.
He went on to graduate from St. Paul grade school and Westerville High School in 1971. He retired from the State of Ohio in 2007. He was a past member of the Shamrock Club of Columbus. Johnny loved traveling Columbus by COTA bus, marching in the St. Patrick's Day Parade and making cheesy jokes.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Legacy at Westerville for taking care of Johnny.
Johnny is preceded in death by his parents; his sister Judy Murphy who died at the age of 24; his brother, Michael who died at the age of 39 and his aunt, Mary Delfino to whom he was very close.
He is survived by his sister, Sandee Murphy; nieces, Michaela and Siobhan Fallon; Aunt, JoAn Clarkin and many wonderful cousins on both the Delfino and Murphy sides of the family.
Friends may call Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at Egan-Ryan Funeral Home, 403 East Broad Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Church, 313 North State Street, Westerville, Ohio. Burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
