John Francis Newlon

John Francis (Jack) Newlon, of Eastpointe, age 90, passed away in his sleep early Sunday morning. He is survived by Dorothy, his wife of 59 years, and children Mark (Sharon) and Jeanne (Paul) Morgan. He is predeceased by his son Michael. He is also survived by three wonderful grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Jack proudly served in the Korean War. Upon returning he started his career as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, working his way through the ranks to eventually be appointed Postmaster of Eastpointe. He served in this position for many years until his retirement in 1992. He made many lifelong friends through his work.
Jack was smart, quick, and funny. He was an agile conversationalist and a deep thinker. Most importantly, he was a man of deep yet simple faith, which illuminated every aspect of his life.
Jack's Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, February 2 at 11:00 a.m. (in state at 10:30) at Holy Innocents Church in Roseville (16359 Frazho Rd., Roseville, 48066). In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorial donations be directed to St. Bonaventure Capuchin Monastery, Detroit.
