A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Algona. Burial will be held in East Lawn Cemetery, Algona.
John Carl Norman was born on December 24, 1935, in Algona, Iowa, the son of Carl and Nina (Shackelford) Norman. He was a lifelong resident of Algona and took great pride in calling it home.
John graduated from Algona High School with the class of 1955. Following graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Army, receiving an honorable discharge upon completion of his service.
After his military service, John trained as a bricklayer apprentice before beginning a long and dedicated career with Snap-On Tools, where he worked for 35 years until his retirement.
John had many interests that brought him joy throughout his life. He enjoyed creating beautiful colored pencil artwork, watching movies, and searching garage sales for treasured books and music boxes. He was an avid collector of knives; particularly American made jack knives and antique guns, which he enjoyed cleaning and maintaining. John also had a special talent for crafting his own bows and arrows.
He will be remembered for his quiet creativity, dedication to his work, and the care he took in all he did.
John passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at the Good Samaritan Society in Algona, at the age of 89.
He is survived by his niece, Angelique (Robert) Malkentzos of Winchester, Ohio; great-nephew, Nicholas Malkentzos; great-niece, Annabelle Malkentzos; and brother-in-law, Jack Aldinger.
Preceding him in death are his parents, sister Felice, brother Robert, and nephew Chad.
