ALBANY - On January 9, 2024, John (Jack) W. O'Rourke entered into eternal life, at the Teresian House, in Albany, N.Y. Jack was born on May 17, 1924, to Frederick and Mary (Doty) O'Rourke, in Cohoes, N.Y. He had no other siblings. He was educated at St. Bernard's Grammar School in Cohoes and LaSalle Institute in Troy. His first job was as a peanut vendor at Hawkins Stadium in Menands, where he met the love of his life Kathleen Giblin. In July of 1941, both Jack and his father, Fred enlisted in the United States Navy. Jack served on troop transport/cargo ships the USS Roamer and Mount Vernon. Fred entered the Seabees. Both served in the South Pacific.
After WWII, Jack returned home and married Kathleen at Sacred Heart Church in North Albany on August 24,1946. He was a humble, devoted family man who always placed his wife and family first. Jack held several positions in the residential and commercial flooring industry. He retired, in 1990, as a regional director for the Kentile Corporation. Post retirement he worked at the Albany County Department of Aging.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Kathleen; his parents; his aunt, Dorothy O'Rourke- Bullock; and his dear friend and companion, Laurette Deyoe. He is survived by his children, Michael (Nancy) O'Rourke, Reverend James O'Rourke, and Mary Beth (Joseph) Rossier; grandchildren, Patrick (Josette) O'Rourke, Mairin O'Rourke, Carrie (Stan) Lenic, Brigid O'Rourke, Brian (Deanna) O'Rourke, Rebecca and Mikayla Rossier; and three great-grandchildren, Christina, Theo and Elena.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Jack's family on Sunday, January 14, 2024, 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany, N.Y. 12206. Please enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot entrance only.
Funeral services Monday, January 15, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at The Parish of Mater Christi where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated by his beloved son, Rev. James O'Rourke as Main Celebrant.
The Rite of Committal will be held at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands, N.Y., immediately following the Mass.
