John R. O'Hanlon, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on September 23, 2025, in Poughkeepsie, NY, at the age of 79. He was born on May 31, 1946, in New York City to the late Martin and Kathleen (Castello) O'Hanlon.

John spent his early years in the bustling streets of New York City, where he grew up alongside his brothers, Michael and Marty, both of whom predeceased him. His life was a testament to the strong values instilled in him by his parents-values he carried proudly throughout his lifetime.

After earning his Associate's Degree, John began a career of service. He first served his country as a K9 Dog Handler in the U.S. Air Force, including a tour during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he worked as a dispatcher for the Fire Department of New York. He later served his community as a driver for Ron's Auto Body and as a dispatcher for the Kent Police Department in Carmel, NY. Known for his reliability, work ethic, and steady presence, John was deeply respected in each of these roles.

Above all, John's heart belonged to his family. He was a devoted husband to his loving wife, Louise (Antle) O'Hanlon, and a guiding light to his children, Christopher Ennis (Shirley), Oby Ennis (Rhonnie), Janet Figa (fiancé John Pucek), and Lorraine O'Hanlon. His legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren-Kristy, Kathleen, Michael, Olivia, Justin, Courtney, Rebekah, Thomas, Luke, Priscilla, and Jake. Along with eight great grandchildren - each of whom will carry forward the love, wisdom and values he imparted.

John found joy in life's simple pleasures and will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, and the love he had for his family. He especially enjoyed watching war movies, history documentaries, trains and playing jokes on those he loved. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories of his laughter and warmth will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 29, 2025 at Cargain Funeral Homes, Inc., 10 Fowler Avenue, Carmel, NY.

During the Visitation, there will be a Celebration of Life and Prayer Service commencing at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. There will also be a U.S. Air Force Military Honors Ceremony during the service.

Private cremation to follow.
