Abbeville - A graveside service will take place on Saturday, November 22, at 11:00 am at Graceland Cemetery, 1500 Veterans Memorial Drive, Abbeville, Louisiana, for John Winfred O’Bryan III, age 84, who passed away on November 13, 2025.
John was born on October 21, 1941, and was a lifetime resident of Abbeville and the Vermilion Parish area.
John spent most of his life outdoors and enjoyed the lifestyle that came with living in the country and on the river. He was a hunter, fisherman, and gardener, and he especially took pride in caring for his citrus trees. John lived life in a straight forward and practical way and appreciated the routines and traditions that grounded him. He had a strong personality and a sharp sense of humor that his family and friends came to know well.
John earned his bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Northeast Louisiana University and was a very dedicated CPA to all of his clients. He valued his independence and kept a simple, steady rhythm to his days. Those who knew him will remember him for his presence, his humor, and the familiar ways he approached the world around him.
John is survived by his daughters, Angela O’Bryan Wallace and Megan O’Bryan. He is also survived by his step-children, B. J. Songné and wife, Brandy and Michelle Songné Villa and husband, Omar; and by his grand-daughters, Hannah Ramsey, Allie Copeland, and Sidney Wallace; and grandson, Talon Villa. Additional survivors include his sister, Mary Copeland; his brother, Pat O’Bryan and wife, Shirley; step-sister, Lynn Hudgins and her husband Don; and his nieces and nephews, Dana and Tim Hudson, Daniel and Nikki Chapman, Shawn and Kendall Copeland, Patrick and Angie O'Bryan, and Stephen and Kay O'Bryan
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Winfred O’Bryan Jr. and Mary Olga Sagrera; as well as his beloved wife, Ann Yvonne O’Bryan.
