Arthurine McDaniel Sirmon was a cherished mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother whose life was richly woven with family and friends. Known for her kindness and vibrant spirit, Arthurine loved fishing, cooking, golfing, traveling, and entertaining and was always ready to dance the night away, especially on margarita nights. Alongside her husband Claude, she explored every state in their camper, creating memories on the open road.
As a proud member of the Butte Larose Ladies, Arthurine delighted in the lively camaraderie of her ladies-only club, always ready to hoot and holler in joyful celebration. She was predeceased by her closest friends and "Three Musketeers," Mathilda (Mrs. Mott) Simon and Mary Prejean-families lovingly imagine them already cooking a goose for Jesus in heaven.
Born the eldest daughter to Harry and Exodie McDaniel of Gueydan, Louisiana, Arthurine is survived by her sister Barbara, along with many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. She married Claude R. Sirmon at age 23, and together they made their home in Abbeville, Louisiana, until Claude's passing in 1992. Arthurine and Claude had two daughters: Claudia Sirmon and Rachel Trahan.
Claudia and her husband Rick Reneau have one daughter, Michelle Hooks (John Hooks.) They have three children-Amelia Rodriguez, AJ Rodriguez, and Sean Hooks-and two great-great-grandchildren through Amelia. Rachel Trahan, widow of Glenn Trahan, is mother to Ryan Michaud and Jeremy Trahan.
Though she had two daughters of her own, many families-including the Simons, Prejeans, Scelfos, Perins, and LeBlancs-embraced her as their beloved Momo, a testament to the warmth and love she shared beyond her immediate family.
Arthurine was able to live the final chapter of her life at home, surrounded by love and dignity, thanks to the devoted care of Rachel S. Trahan. And somewhere beyond us now, she's surely dancing again-margarita in hand, smiling that big, beautiful smile that made everyone feel like they belonged.
In Lieu of flowers donations may be made in Arthurine’s name to Abbeville United Methodist Church, 213 N. State St. Abbeville, LA. 70510.
