John O'Donnell passed away peacefully on October 9, 2025 after a brief illness. He was 89 years old. John was born in Dumbarton, Scotland on February 16, 1936 to the late John and Catherine O'Donnell. John came to the United States in 1965, settling in the Bronx and working for New York City Transit Authority. He moved with his family to Rockland County in 1981. He married the love of his life, Diane, on September 3, 1989. They lived in Stony Point where they enjoyed spending time with their family, raising their dogs, watching the New York Yankees and listening to Irish music. John is survived by his children Joanne O'Donnell, Joseph O'Donnell (Nikoo), Terence McGuire (Sueann), Kellie McGuire (Jason Hernandez), and Erin Maye (William). He is also survived by his sisters Catherine Wark and Theresa Watson (Kip) and his sister-in-law, Susan Gomez (Joseph) and his cherished grandchildren, Aidan and Myles O'Donnell, Nicole Simpson, Daniel and Michael McGuire, Kiera, Ryan and Katherine O'Shea and his extended family and loving nieces and nephews and his loving dog. Rocky. John was predeceased by his wife, Diane, brother Hugh, and his children, John and Andrea O'Donnell.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 from 4-8pm at TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home, 71 N. Central Highway, Garnerville, NY. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, 11am, at Saint Gregory Barbarigo in Garnerville. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the ASPCA.
