I recently visited Pittsburgh and found out from a good friend that John O'Nan had died. John and I did not do a whole lot together. Nevertheless, I was deeply saddened to hear of this news. John showed me the way to kindness. I remember volunteering for the Rehabilitation Institute in Squirrel Hill forty years ago. And there was John, tending to children and cheering them up with his natural and infectious ebullience. The world is a little dimmer today.

We will miss our beloved co-worker, John. He was such a pleasant, kind person, loved by all.

John was an amazing co worker! He was always so positive even in the moment of extreme stress. You could always go to John and expect someone who would listen and only comment when it was needed or wanted. He will be missed.

I grew up down the street from John, on Linden Ave, and I knew him well. He was the incarnation of amiability, a benevolent fixture in the neighborhood-exactly as the obituary says: "a kind and gentle soul." I´m sure he´ll be missed by everyone who knew him.
