John J. O'Shea ObituaryO'SHEA, John J., of Tewksbury, formerly of Cambridge, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2025, surrounded by his loving children, after a brief but courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma.
Beloved son of the late John O'Shea and Eileen (Driscoll). Cherished father of Jacqueline O'Shea of Scranton, PA, Patrick O'Shea of Methuen, and Danielle O'Shea Welch and her husband Matthew Welch of Merrimack, NH. Proud and loving grandfather of Ryann, Bryce, and Gavin O'Shea. Dear brother of the late Christine, Shirley, and Patrick. Lifelong friend of Tom Devin and his wife Annie, whom he treasured dearly.
John was born in London, England, where he spent countless days and nights playing soccer with the neighborhood kids, a passion that stayed with him for life. He held cherished memories of visiting his grandmother's farm in Ireland, a place that remained close to his heart.
John and his family immigrated to the United States, settling first in Somerville and later in Cambridge, MA. Following in his father's footsteps, he began his career as a bricklayer, contributing to the construction of many high-rise buildings across Boston. He later transitioned to a distinguished career with the Federal Aviation Administration, serving as an Air Traffic Controller for 38 years with commitment and precision.
John loved the outdoors. He found peace fishing off the shores of Manomet Beach, where his family had a cottage, and spending summers with his children in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. John enjoyed skiing in the White Mountains and proudly tackled the challenging Tuckerman Ravine. Later in life, he found joy simply taking in the mountain views from his dock on Forest Lake.
He was a devoted sports fan always rooting for the Patriots and Celtics, but his greatest love was soccer, or as he called it, "the beautiful game." He passed down that passion to his children and grandchildren, who carry on his love for the sport.
John will be remembered for his strength, bravery, loyalty, and deep love for his family. He leaves behind a legacy of perseverance, warmth, and quiet generosity that will live on through all who knew and loved him.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Visiting Hours from the Keefe Funeral Home., 5 Chestnut Street, ARLINGTON, on Saturday, September 6th from 2-5PM. A Prayer Service and Military Honors will be held at 4:30PM. Burial will be Private.
