John Vernon Oak, born on August 1, 1947, in Carroll County, Kentucky, passed away on February 20, 2025, in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky. He dedicated a significant part of his life to his work with the Carroll County Road Department, where he contributed his skills and hard work to his community.
John was known for his passion and dedication to his hobbies, which included woodworking, construction, tinkering with lawnmowers, and taking care of his yard. His craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail were evident in every project he undertook, showcasing his love for creating and maintaining the beauty around him.
He attended Valley Christian Church, one of John’s most cherished accomplishments was his baptism at the church, an event that held deep meaning to him.
He is survived by his loving family, which includes daughters Dianna Oak and Tabitha (Rocky) Chandler, both of Carrollton, KY; sons John Matthew Oak of Shelbyville, KY, and Joshua A. Oak of Carrollton, KY; sisters Evelyn Oak and Cindy Oak, both of Carrollton, KY; and brothers Gerald Oak of Ghent, KY, and Jimmy Powers of Monterey, KY. He was also a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren who were the light of his life.
John was preceded in death by his parents, James Edward Oak and Margaret Elizabeth Walker Oak. He also mourned the loss of several siblings, including sisters Barbara Woods, Edith Furnish, Shirley Powers, Christine Oak, Pauline Oak, and Ann Hester, as well as brothers Jerry Oak, Donald Oak, James Ray Oak, Charlie Oak, and Robert Elwood Oak.
Family and friends are invited to honor and remember John during a visitation scheduled for Saturday, March 1, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Valley Christian Church, located at 817 11th Street, Carrollton, KY, 41008. A Celebration of his life will be held at 5:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at the church. John's warmth, dedication, and spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
