REVEREND DOCTOR JOHN H. OLIVER Jr.
Pastor Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church White Plains, AL
Reverend John Oliver Jr. was born in Birmingham, Al on May 17, 1945, to the late parents of John H. Oliver Sr. and Ada Oliver Williams. He confessed Christ at an early age and joined Green Liberty Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Herbert Gilvin.
Rev. Oliver attended Birmingham Public Schools. He earned an Associate of Science degree from the University of Hawaii. He also earned a Bachelor of Arts Christian Education and Doctor of Divinity from Birmingham Easonian Baptist Bible College in Birmingham, AL.
He was licensed and ordained as a Minister of the Gospel in 1978 by Rev. Emette Aniton Jr., at First Baptist Church East Vain St., Jacksonville, Al. Rev. Oliver pastor his first church while stationed in Seol Korea. Upon returning to the United States, he joined the New Hope Baptist Church under Rev. Andrew Jackson in Jacksonville, Al. In 1983 Rev. Oliver was stationed in Camp Zama Japan where he pastored the Sagamihara Community Church. In 1988 he became the pastor of Providence Baptist Church in Leesburg, AL. In 2006 he became the pastor of Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in White Plains, Al and pastored there until his final days.
Rev. Oliver retired from the U.S. Army after serving 25 years in July 1987. He was a highly decorated combat veteran. Rev. Oliver had two combat tours in Vietnam. He was stationed in several military bases around the world to include; Okinawa and Tokyo Japan, Seoul Korea, Fitzsimons Army Medical Center CO, Fort McClellan AL and Fort Benning GA (where retired).
Rev. Oliver married the love of his life Barbara (Red) Oliver was united for more than 57 years. He is the proud father of two sons, Anthony (Jacqueline) Oxford, Al., and Michael (Brianne) Louisville, Ky. He is also a proud father of one daughter, Jonnecia (Carl Jr.) Dotson Oxford, AL. He has 7 grandchildren; LaVonda, Anthony Jordan, Simone, Vivianne, Abigail, J'ohn, and Carl III. He has 2 great-grandchildren: LaMeshia and E'Myia. Oliver's remaining Siblings of 8 - Janice Oliver, Anthony Oliver (Amanda), Wanda Reynolds and LaVette Jones.
Rev. Oliver wore the distinct honor of being President Emeritus of Snow Creek District Association Congress of Christian Education. He was the spiritual advisor to the Snow Creek District Deaconess, and he was an instructor for the Birmingham Easonian Baptist Bible College.
He was a beacon of light, inspiring, and encouraging everyone who came in contact with him. He dedicated his life for the ause of Christ and has earned his crown as a good and faithful servant. Well done Pastor Oliver. Rest now. Well done.
