John was honorably discharged from the United States Navy. During his active duty, he received the following medals and ribbons: Combat Action Ribbon, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Award, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/2 Bronze Stars, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, w/1 Bronze Star, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/Palm, Republic of Vietnam Campaign w/Device.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Albert Wallace Orr and Ruth Evelyn Orr; siblings, Charles Wallace (Edith) Orr, Robyn Ann (Orr) Crandall and Phillip Branden Orr; and niece, Tammy.
He is survived by his sister, Ruth Elizabeth (Orr) Greathouse (Kenneth); his nieces and nephews, James, Jason Orr, David, Peter (Mary) Greathouse; Isla and Cullen Greathouse, Denali and Lexi Brannen; nephews, David, Peter (Mary); nieces, Katie and Hannah; great nieces and nephews, Isla and Cullen Greathouse, Denali and Lexi Brannen; and devoted friend, Eugene McDaniel.
