John W. Palmer, 76, of Maysville, Kentucky, passed away at his home with his family by his side on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. He was born on February 14, 1949, in Maysville, Kentucky to the late Ira and Anna Boone Palmer.
John spent his childhood in Manchester, Ohio, and later resided in Brown County. He was a committed law enforcement officer who proudly served on the Sherrif's Department in Brown County as Chief Deputy Sheriff and for the Maysville Police Department for many years. John and his wife Cheryl also lived in Boone and Kenton County as well. John demonstrated outstanding professionalism, strong integrity, steadfast courage, and sincere respect for both his colleagues and the community, regardless of the county or state he served. John and Cheryl were members of the Erlanger Church of Christ and also attended Sardis United Methodist Church.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Ira, and Anna Palmer, and one brother, Andrew Douglas Palmer.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Cheryl Doyle Palmer; his children, Allison Renee (Bud) Whitaker, Michael Wayde (Jennifer) Palmer, and two stepsons, Rodney and Randy Myers; grandchildren, Mitchell (Dakota) Palmer, Dru Whitaker, Amelia Morgan, Raelynn Smith, Madison, Matthew, and Derek Myers: one nephew, Jason Palmer and a host of extended family and great friends.
A graveside service will be held to honor John's life on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. in the Shannon Cemetery with Dr. Mike Rice officiating.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in John's name to Sardis United Methodist Church 41143 US-62, May's Lick, KY 41055.
