John Richard Payne, 75, of Troy, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026. He was born on November 26, 1950, in Bruceville, McLennan County, Texas, to Cora Mae and Woodrow Wilson Payne.

John was a lifelong resident of Troy and a man full of character and charm. Known for his charismatic personality, he was both strong-willed and warm-hearted, always ready with a laugh or a joke. He retired as a Parts Inspector with C & H Diecast after many years of dedicated service, reflecting his strong work ethic and commitment to providing for his family. John loved the outdoors and treasured his summers spent camping and boating at the lake. A natural tinkerer, he could often be found working on his cars and trucks or tackling projects around the house. Music was one of his greatest joys, and he was especially proud of his CD collection, which grew to more than 1,000 CDs of all genres. He cherished time spent listening to music with friends and sharing stories.A man with a generous spirit, John would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need. His dogs, Rascal and Gunner, were his loyal companions and constant source of comfort. Above all, John loved his family. He was a devoted husband, a dedicated father and grandfather, a loving brother, and a treasured friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cora Mae and Woodrow Wilson Payne; his brother, James Wilson Payne; and his sisters, Francis Davis, Marilyn Reimiller, Linda Puryear, and Thelma Rozinski. John is survived by his wife, Sandra Payne; his brother, Billy Payne; his sisters, Ludean Rader, Mildred Turner and her spouse, Hilda Guthrie, and Mary Crawford; his son, Brett Pruitt and his wife Maria; his daughter, Johnna Dudik and her husband Kevin; his grandchildren, Kilee Dudik, Kenlee Krenek, Taylor Dudik, Derian Dudik, Illana Pruitt, Alyssa Pruitt, Breyden Pruitt, and Joseph Castillo; and several great-grandchildren.

John will be remembered for his big heart, strong work ethic, love of music, and unwavering devotion to his family. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
