Josh Bauer

Josh Bauer, affectionately known as "Huckleberry Slim" or "Huck," passed away unexpectedly in his home on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at the age of 51. Born on November 18, 1974, in Waco, Texas to Steven Bauer and Lisa Dove, Josh lived a life marked by service, dedication, and an indomitable spirit.

Josh's educational journey included graduating from Leander High School in 1993. He further pursued a nursing degree at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, followed by attending the Killeen Police Academy and the federal academy in Little Rock, Arkansas, where he graduated with accommodations for leadership.

An accomplished individual, Josh served his country with great honor. He began his career in military service as an intelligence specialist in the Marine Corps. After his time there, he further enriched his life experience by becoming a firefighter in Newbern, NC, before enlisting in the US Army as a shooting instructor. His commitment to serving did not end with his military service, he continued to contribute to his community in various capacities, including working with Exxon Mobile, All Weather Restoration, and as a police officer for local authorities, where he also served as an extradition officer for the Marshal's office.

Josh was known for his passionate nature which shown after he met Jillene Marie Tatum he was determined to make her his wife and blend their lives together. He was also known for his fierce determination to stand up for those in need. Described as stubborn yet selfless, he was a funny man with magnetic energy who drew people to him. His loved ones fondly remember him as the problem solver within the family and among friends, a courageous individual who exemplified the standard of a true man. Josh cherished his faith, family, and country, and he kept a servant's heart throughout his life.

In his leisure time, Josh found joy in watching baseball, particularly the Astros and Rangers, as well as enjoying football games and cozy family movie nights. He took pride in his collection of watches, and those who saw him around town would often find him driving his pick-up truck named Ashley. His love for family was evidenced in the day trips and travels they shared together.

Josh is survived by his beloved wife, Jillene Marie (Tatum) Bauer; two sons, Josh and Charlie; four daughters, Kelsey, Emily, Lillian, and Clara; two brothers, Eric, Jacob; sister, Candi; and grandson, William. He is preceded in death by his mother, Lisa Dove, and one daughter, Cheyenne Bauer.

A graveside service will be held in his memory at Carlton Cemetery, located .5 miles west of Carlton on FM 2823, Carlton, TX, on February 14, 2026. Visitation will start at 2:00 PM, with the graveside service starting at at 3:00 PM, and a reception following.

Josh Bauer's life was a testament to his unwavering dedication to his family and country. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
