William Bennett Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Beck Funeral Home in Austin/Round Rock on Dec. 29, 2025.
William "David" Bennett, age 68, passed peacefully at his home in Round Rock, Texas on December 25, 2025.
David was born in Kansas City, Missouri on November 10, 1957 to Henry William Bennett and Billie Jean Bass. After his father's passing in 1966, David's family moved to Texas and eventually settled in the Leander area where he graduated from Leander High School in 1977. David attended Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas, where he played offensive line until returning to central Texas in 1980 to meet and marry the love of his life, Tia Johnson. David and Tia settled in Round Rock where he spent the last 43 years.
David found joy in the simple things in life. He loved fishing, hunting, gardening, carpentry, and good food- and he especially loved a good garage sale! He was a natural fixer and never one to buy something new if he could repair something old (and being the hard-headed man he was, he always could). His family was his proudest accomplishment and he taught his children his values not in his words but in how he lived his life- with kindness, hard work and the firm belief that two wrongs do not make a right. He may not have "lit up the room," but he always brought a sense of calm and peace to those around him.
David spent 14 years working for Capital Equipment Company and 7 years managing a paint store before being diagnosed with an aggressive form of Leukemia in 2002. That same year he was given the life-saving gift of a stem cell transplant by his loving sister Sandi. Although cancer-free, he spent 23 years in and out of doctors' offices and hospitals, but he would never let you know of his struggles. He appreciated every day he had.
David was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Gary. He is survived by his wife Tia and his two children, Elena Saragosa (husband Matthew), Trevor Bennett (wife Lauren), sisters Sandra Simpson (husband Floyd) and Barbara Bennett, his adored grandchildren Grant and Jace Saragosa, Ryan and Reese Bennett, as well as many sister and brother in laws, nieces and nephews, and very dear friends.
The family extends their immense gratitude to the many Doctors, Nurses, and Healthcare Professionals who lovingly cared for him over the past 23 years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Palm Valley Lutheran Church, the Round Rock Serving Center, or the National Marrow Donor Program.
A visitation will be held on Friday, January 2nd from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Beck Funeral Home at 15709 Ranch Road 620 N Austin, TX 78717, followed by a service and burial at Palm Valley Lutheran Church in Round Rock on Saturday, January 3rd at 10:00 am.

David will be remembered for his gentle nature and enjoying his friends. It was a pleasure to see him so happy when he met and married Tia. They were truly made for each other. He will be missed, but is no longer suffering. Rest in peace.
