John Pennington Obituary
In the early morning hours on February 26, 2025, John Garner Pennington, 88, of Roderfield, Wv, passed away peacefully at Welch Community Hospital, Welch, WV. He was a loving husband, dad, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and uncle. Born September 21, 1936, in Premier, WV, to the late George Washington and Nellie Turpin Pennington.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Carl, Ed, Warren, Walt, Garnett, Jess, Gale, and Jim; and two sisters, Elaine Christian and Shirley Cline.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 68 years, Shirley of the home; son, John Gale Pennington (Merry Gail) of Welch, WV; daughters, Terri Sly (Jim) of Moneta, VA, Gerri Sue Pennington of Princeton, WV, and Kerri Anderson (Tim) of Welch, WV; two loving granddaughters, Erica Preston (Albert) of Rocky Mount, VA and Stephanie Pennington of Welch, WV; one great grandson, Gunnar Preston of Rocky Mount, VA; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was the last survivor of the Pennington Family. He was a faithful member of the Roderfield Christian Church for 68 years. A graduate of Welch High and Vocational Schools. He retired from Sunbeam Bread Co. and Red Ash Coal Co., Litwar, WV.
The family wishes to express many thanks to STAT Ambulance employees, doctors and nurses at Welch Community Hospital and McDowell Healthcare Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to: Roderfield Christian Church PO Box 290 Roderfield, WV 24881.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, WV, beginnning with a visitation from 9:00-11:00 AM and service to be held at 11:00 AM, with Pastor John Gale Pennington and Pastor Mark Gaminde officiating. Graveside service to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell, WV.
Pallbearers will be Jamie Pennington, Pat Wellman III, Joe Wellman, Gary Davis, Roger Peake, Jeff Branham, Jeremy Branham, and Roger Pennington.
Honorary Pallbearers are, Mr. Jimmy Hampton, Tim Anderson, Jim Sly, Albert Preston, Gunnar Preston, Bill Addair, and Pat McKinney.
