John Picone Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Vainieri Funeral Home on Dec. 24, 2025.
John Picone, a devoted family man, respected entrepreneur, and Korean War veteran, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2025, at the age of 94.
Born in New Jersey during the Great Depression, John learned the values of resilience and hard work early in life. Despite a modest upbringing with his parents and three siblings, he forged a remarkable path. He proudly served his country in the Korean War, an experience that deepened his steadfast character.
John's greatest joy was his family. He married his first love, Shirley, and lovingly raised her two children, Terry and Colleen, as his own. He is survived by his daughter, Colleen Crotty, and his daughter-in-law, Jenny Crotty (Chris). He was the cherished "Poppy" to his grandchildren: Laura Crotty, Terrence Crotty (Jamie), Terri Ann Crotty (Oscar), and Kylie Crotty, and a doting great-grandfather to nine.
A self-made man, and super successful business owner, John's strong work ethic and vision led him to build and run several successful trucking companies, including P&N Trucking in North Bergen. To many in the business world, he was known as Mr. John Picone-a sharp, determined, and reliable figure, who was able to give back to his community by employing people in need. But those who knew him best saw beyond the tough exterior to a heart filled with unconditional love and quiet kindness. He was always the first to offer help, asking little in return.
John's life was a testament to the power of perseverance, loyalty, and quiet generosity. He built a lasting legacy not only through his businesses, but through the strength and love of the family he nurtured. He will be profoundly missed, but the memories of his inspiring spirit and the good he did will forever be cherished.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that his memory be honored through an act of kindness for someone in need, reflecting John's own generous nature.
Let the family know you care by leaving your condolences, favorite memories and thoughts and prayers on the Tribute Wall.
