John Pierce Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Soxman Funeral Homes. Ltd. /Roth Chapel on Mar. 9, 2026.
John Frederick Pierce, 72, of Plum Borough, Pennsylvania, passed away on March 7, 2026. He was born on January 27, 1954, in New Holland, Pennsylvania, the son of Earl Pierce and Louise (Ludwig) Pierce. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Janet Lynn (Manson) Pierce; his children David Pierce (Angela) and Matthew Pierce (Christina); his cherished grandchildren Giana Pierce, John Paul Pierce, and Madden Pierce; a stepsister Narene (George) Dowlin, and stepbrothers Dick (Judy) Dyer and Ron Dyer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Pierce and Louise (Ludwig) Pierce, his stepmother June (Dyer) Pierce, and his brother Thomas Pierce. Known to many as "Fred," he was a Special Education teacher who dedicated many years to serving students at Saint Anthony's School for Exceptional Children in Oakmont and later at Greenfield Elementary School in Pittsburgh. He was known for his strong faith, his dedication to his family, and his wonderful sense of humor. Fred had a lifelong love of sports. He especially enjoyed playing tennis and had a deep appreciation for baseball, often watching games and discussing players and their swings. He volunteered his time coaching youth sports and loved playing games and spending time with his children and grandchildren. His faith in Jesus Christ was central to his life. Fred faithfully served as an elder at Unity Community Church and approached life with humility, integrity, and a commitment to doing the right thing. He was also a lifelong Philadelphia Phillies, Philadelphia Eagles, and Philadelphia 76ers fan, though he proudly raised his children to cheer for the local Pittsburgh teams. A viewing will be held on Thursday March 12th from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at Soxman Funeral Homes, Ltd., 7450 Saltsburg Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15235. A funeral service will take place on Friday 11 a.m. at Unity Community Church, 215 Unity Trestle Road, Plum, PA 15239. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association. Fred will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. The Lord has gained His newest All Star.
