John S. Pigott

John, age 77, joined his wife in Heaven on Tuesday, January 13, 2026. He was a resident of Springfield, LA. John was a man defined by his unwavering patriotism, and love for his family. A proud American through and through, he dedicated 32 years of his life to service in the United States Army. His commitment to service did not end with his military career. John was an active member of Good News Fellowship Church. He was instrumental in founding AMVETS Post 68 in Springfield, ensuring that fellow veterans would always have a place of support. John was also a devoted member of the Springfield American Legion, the Sons of Confederate Veterans, and the DVA, remaining deeply connected to military history and veteran causes throughout his life. In his professional life, John worked for the Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), where he was known for his strong work ethic and reliability. Outside of work, he was a passionate history buff, with a particular love for American and military history and he also enjoyed old Western films. Those who knew him best remember his joy for life's simple pleasures, especially crawfish boils shared with family and friends. Each Christmas, he loved handing out peppermint sticks, a small tradition that became a cherished memory for many. Above all things John adored his family, especially his wife and fur-babies. He was an exceptional husband, loving father, and the best Paw Paw you could ask for. John will be forever missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his daughters, Rochelle Miles (Lee), Erika Bearden (Albert), Dee McCarter, Sissy Bickford; daughter-in-law, Lena McCarter; sister, Shawn Pigott; grandchildren, Greyson Miles, Devin Dorsey, Preston McCarter (Bree), Jesse Bickford (Shaylee), Connor Bickford, Trent Bickford, Christian McCarter (Dahlia), Zachary McCarter, Mikayla McCarter; and great-grandchildren, River Dorsey, Maverick Dorsey, Hayes Dorsey, Rhett Dorsey, Sebastian McCarter, and Seraphina McCarter.

John is preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Pigott; son, Richard McCarter; parents, John and Augustine Pigott; sister, Judy Cormier; and an infant brother.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Hospice Foundation as well as Phillip Pigott, Joe and Greta Thibodeaux, Michelle Harkcom, Dustin LeBouef for their constant care, love, and support.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home at 12012 Hwy 190 W. Hammond, LA 70401 on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Carter Cemetery.
