John Richard Plumb,84, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026, in
Rockwall, Texas. He was born in
Flint, Michigan to Rita Lea Chasteen and John Nowasislosky on May 10, 1941. Shortly after divorcing John, Rita married Arthur "Doc" Plumb. Richard was raised by Rita and Doc in Dallas, Texas. As an adult Richard legally changed his name to John Richard Plumb. Richard had six younger siblings. He would often testify of his seniority by reminding each of the younger siblings who it was that changed their diapers.
Richard met the love of his life, Sara Juanita Gleaton, on the steps of Bryan Adams High School. He asked Nita for a date the evening they met and the rest, as they say, is history. Richard and Nita married on June 22, 1962. God placed these two lives together as only He could do. He knit them together with love, grace, strength and flexibility which saw them through over 63 years of marriage.
They were blessed with two kindhearted, funny, sports loving and compassionate sons. Richard Gregory Plumb was born in January 1964, and Jeffrey Stewart Plumb was born in April 1969. Once Richard was incapacitated, Jeff and his wife, Lisa, provided love and support for Richard and Nita as best they could. Richard had two grandsons. Drake Powers Plumb and Ryan Walls-Atteberry. Both boys assisted in caring for their grandparents over the past year. Richard was blessed to be able to spend time with his great-grandson, Harlan, over the last year. Harlan and his mother Jessica Jowers Plumb spent lots of time making "Pawpaw" smile. Richard was a Senior Electrical Engineer for Raytheon for nearly thirty years. He was well respected for his expertise, professionalism and ability to adapt in the changing times.
Richard was a master of woodworking. Nita kept him busy creating beautiful pieces. Nita's creative mind and his mastery of woodworking made a beautiful and unique home for their sweet family. Nita would conceive a project, and he would then plan and execute her creation. Their success in these endeavors was not different from the life they started together back in 1962. They trusted in God, in each other and in one another's abilities. Richard lived his life guided by faith, and a deep commitment to his family. He and Nita attended First United Methodist Church regularly until he was no longer able to walk.
Survivors include his wife Sara "Nita" Plumb, his son Jeffrey Stewart Plumb and daughter-in-law Lisa Plumb, his grandson Drake Powers Plumb and his wife Jessica, his grandson Ryan Walls-Atteberry, his great-grandson Harlan Drake Plumb, his sister Susan Plumb Tucker and her husband Roland, his sister Debe Plumb Trout and her husband Scott, his sister Marsha Plumb Lyons and her husband Jim, his sister Marti Plumb Mumaw and her husband Keith, his sister-in-law Leslie Plumb, his sister-in-law Linda Webb and her husband Pete, his brother-in-law Thomas Gleaton and his wife Julie.
