John Poston

John Poston, 65, of Lake Shore, MN passed away peacefully surrounded by his family from ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) on December 5, 2023. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday December 16, 2023 at 11:00am at Lutheran Church of the Cross in Nisswa, MN. There will be a visitation held one hour prior to the start of the service. There will also be a visitation held on Friday December 15, 2023, from 4:00pm - 7:00pm at Lutheran Church of the Cross, Nisswa.

John was born to Jere and Patricia (Murray) Poston on May 5, 1958, in Minneapolis, MN.

He was a very active member in the City of Lake Shore, Nisswa, and within the State of Minnesota. From serving as Mayor of Lake Shore for four years, serving on the City Council in Lake Shore, and serving three terms as District 9A State Representative, John was delighted to be involved in public service. John founded a humanitarian food-aid organization in 2012, the Outreach Program of Brainerd Lakes (formally Kids Against Hunger). To date, over 4 million meals have been provided to families in need in Minnesota and around the globe. John served as CEO of the charity, working with dedicated community volunteers to help end hunger-one meal at a time. The charity will continue long after John's passing.

Amongst his civic duties, he was also the owner of various businesses in the Brainerd Lakes area, such as Poston’s Property Management, John and his wife are proud owners of Salon 77 in Nisswa, and 3 Cheers Hospitality Catering. John’s gift was interacting with the community as a business owner, and a friend to many. He was also employed with Michaels Stores, International Operations at Sally Beauty, The Home Depot, and with Payless Cashways Building Materials.

He is survived by his wife Pam Poston, step daughter Bailey (Luke) Landecker, two grandsons Berkeley and Mack, three siblings Polly (Layne) Noser, Patrick (Peg) Poston, Joy (Steven) Stanley, his nieces and nephews Steven Stanley (Heather and 3 children), Katie Brown (Josh and 2 children), Layne Noser (Olivia and child), Brett Noser (Holly and child), Patrick Poston (Jane Yoon) and Kelly (Seth and 2 children) Thompson, and his pup Molly.

John is preceded in death by his parents, his infant sister, and his grandparents.
