John F. Rainey 82, of New Castle, Delaware, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 13, 2023, at ManorCare Health Service, Wilmington, Delaware. He was born in Fayette County, West Virginia to the late John F. and Maybelle (Asbury) Rainey on April 16, 1941.
John worked for and retired from Terminix. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Eagles, 76'ers, Phillies and the Flyers. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR, rooting for Uncle Jimmy Spencer (no relation). He had a great sense of humor and was a happy-go-lucky man.
John was preceded in death by his first wife Sandra A. Rainey, the mother of his three adult children; his mother-in-law, Annabelle Rivera of Chicago, who helped him take care of his three young children after their mothers passing; sisters, Nancy Adkins and Drema Dixon, both of Chicago; and half siblings, Donald Wilburn and Marsha Owens.
John is survived by his present wife, Edith Rainey of New Castle, DE.; daughters, Ginnie Harding (Richard) of Milford, DE; and Melissa Lauer (Donald) of Lincoln, DE; and son, John Rainey (Diane) of Harrington, DE. He also leaves behind seven adult grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
No funeral or memorial service is immediately planned. His adult children will have a private celebration of life at a later time.
