He graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where he was a member of Phi Kappa Theta fraternity. In 1959 John moved to Akron and joined Goodyear Tire, where he worked with many other young engineers. Soon after arrival, he became involved with the Young Adult Scullen Club at St. Vincent Parish, where he and Julie met. John and Julie loved ballroom dancing. He retired from IBM after many years working with customers in Akron and Boca Raton, Florida. He got involved early in the Akron community with West Side Neighbors and later at St. Hilary Parish with the Evangelization Team. John was a member of the Knights of Columbus. A lover of music, John played both clarinet and saxophone in high school and college and later participated in a community band in Akron. John was an active participant for 17 years with Stewart's Caring Place in Fairlawn, where he mentored others who were recently diagnosed with prostate cancer. John's love of gardening manifested itself in his enduring enjoyment of his yard. He had a keen interest in and concern for others. John's kind demeanor was a shining example for everyone he met.
