On Sunday, October 5, 2025, John Cornelius Randall passed away into the loving arms of Jesus at the age of 87, surrounded by his family.
John was born on October 16, 1937, in Worcester, Massachusetts. He grew up in New Jersey and graduated from Nutley High School where he rowed on the Crew. He graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where he was a member of Phi Kappa Theta fraternity. John was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Lowell, his in-laws, Julie and Fred Censky, and his brothers-in-law, Fran and Jim Censky and John D. Smith.
John is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Julie (Censky), his children, Beth (James) and Kevin (Erika), grandchildren, Sean, Tara, and Carter, his sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Bob Shackleton, his sisters-in-law, Mary Fran Smith and Barbara Censky, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In 1959 John moved to Akron and joined Goodyear Tire, where he worked with many other young engineers. Soon after arrival, he became involved with the Young Adult Scullen Club at St. Vincent Parish, where he and Julie met. John and Julie loved ballroom dancing. He retired from IBM after many years working with customers in Akron and Boca Raton, Florida. He got involved early in the Akron community with West Side Neighbors and later at St. Hilary Parish with the Evangelization Team. John was a member of the Knights of Columbus. A lover of music, John played both clarinet and saxophone in high school and college and later participated in a community band in Akron. John was an active participant for 17 years with Stewart's Caring Place in Fairlawn, where he mentored others who were recently diagnosed with prostate cancer. John's love of gardening manifested itself in his enduring enjoyment of his yard. He had a keen interest in and concern for others. John's kind demeanor was a shining example for everyone he met.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, October 16, 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Hummel Funeral Home, 2800 W. Market St., Fairlawn. Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, October 17 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Hilary Parish, 2750 W. Market St., Fairlawn. Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Hilary Parish Foundation. St. Vincent-St. Mary High School Foundation or The Akron Woman's City Club.
