Hummel Funeral Home & Crematories - FairlawnJohn Mark Heising, 76, was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret (Hummel) Heising, Paul Heising Sr., and his brother, William (Bill) Heising.
He attended St. Sebastian and Archbishop Hoban prior to joining the U.S. Navy, where he proudly served aboard the USS Constellation during the Vietnam War. Upon being honorably discharged, John pursued his passion for cooking, starting his career as a chef in San Diego, California. He later returned to Akron and continued his career at several area restaurants, including Tangier, Crocker's, Ken Stewart's, On Tap, and most recently, Sheraton Suites. While he served as head chef at several locations, his most memorable position was at Tangier, where he met his wife, Linda. John used his exceptional talents to provide wonderful experiences at restaurants and took great pride in cooking for his family and friends. Whether he was preparing meals for his children's events, his son's Boy Scout troop, annual clam bakes, or family holidays, he was always the heart of a delicious meal. John leaves behind a legacy of hard work and the importance of pursuing one's passion.
He is survived by Linda, his wife of 40 years; children, Elizabeth (Bryan) Skursha, John Paul (Carissa) Heising and four beloved grandchildren; sister, Barbara (Karl) Wilhelm, Kate Wilhelm, and Bernie Wilhelm; brother, Paul (Dawna) Heising, Marissa (Sammy), Halo, and Dr. Misty Richards (Dr. Timothy Cushing); numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, as well as many friends and coworkers whom he considered family.
Family and friends may call on Thursday, February 26th, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Hummel Funeral Home, 2800 W. Market St., Fairlawn, OH 44333. John's wishes for inurnment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery will take place at a later time.
