John J. Reardon, 83, of Marshfield, MA, passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2023, after a brief illness.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Deborah; his children: daughter Sue O'Brien and her husband Kevin of Portland, ME; son John J. Reardon Jr. and his wife Darlene of Pembroke, MA, son Paul Reardon and his wife Suzanne of Marshfield, MA, and his grandchildren Erin O'Brien, and Lily, Gabriella and Carter Reardon. Also, his sisters, Eleanor Southwick of Marshfield, Margaret Poillucci of Florida, and Kathleen Wells of Halifax. His brothers William L Reardon and Richard Wells predeceased him.
John was born in Quincy to William and Gladys Reardon. He was a 1957 graduate of Quincy's Archbishop Williams High School and attended the Franklin Institute of Technology in Boston. He worked for the City of Quincy, embarked on a career in real estate, including sales and property management, but then acquired his builder's license and transitioned to construction. Home building was his passion, and the beautiful homes he built on the south shore and Cape Cod were evidence of that passion. He always had funny stories of exciting experiences and hiccups along the way, including the time he had to relocate a retaining wall to accommodate some spotted salamanders.
At home, John loved to garden, and was meticulous in tending to his yard. He also loved to read, and could often be found immersed in, and enthralled by, a good book. He enjoyed a weekly golf group with his friends. But he also enjoyed travel and exploration, often walking for miles. His favorite trips included a family expedition to Ireland to track down his ancestors, and a 50th-anniversary cruise in the Mediterranean with stops in Italy, Greece, and Turkey. Closer to home he loved driving with Debbie to the Cape and exploring our beautiful coastlines.
John and Debbie had recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Their love for each other was something to cherish and a force to be reckoned with; a devotion visible to all who knew them. There wasn't anything they wouldn't have done for each other. They had a lifetime of shared stories and laughter to draw on, and a core group of friends they had known for 60 years with whom they had shared many happy times. Even in difficult times they smiled and made it through together.
John was most proud of his beautiful family and loved having cookouts and family get-togethers, always telling funny stories of an experience or mishap to keep everyone laughing. He truly cherished time with his grandchildren, and you could see the sparkle in his eye whenever he talked about them and their accomplishments. He was proud that his children had all inherited his strong Irish will and were fiercely independent.
He will be deeply missed by his family and missed too by so many who knew him.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Celebration of Life service at St. Christines Church in Marshfield on Saturday, January 21, at 10:00 a.m. Prior to the service there will be a visiting hour at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street, Marshfield, at 8:30 am.

I grew up with John. I was impressed that he switched from public high school to Archies on his own. His thinking was ahead of ours. RIP
